SEO in India typically costs ₹15,000 to ₹2,00,000 or more a month, depending on your sector, how many locations you serve and what the fee covers. A small local business often pays towards the lower half of that range. An ecommerce store or a multi-city business pays toward the top.
That is a market range, not a quote for your site. The rest of this post explains what moves the number, so you can read a proposal and tell whether it is fair.
What does SEO cost in India?
Published rates from Indian agencies fall into these bands. We checked them in October 2026 against agency pricing pages and cost guides, including Noir & Blanco and BeTopSEO.
| Business type | Typical monthly range |
|---|---|
| Small local business, one location | ₹8,000–₹25,000 at the cheapest end; ₹25,000–₹60,000 for a fully scoped plan |
| Local SEO specifically (Maps, “near me”) | ₹25,000–₹60,000 |
| Mid-sized business, several services | ₹25,000–₹60,000 |
| Ecommerce or multi-city | ₹50,000–₹1,50,000 |
| Enterprise and B2B | ₹75,000–₹2,00,000 and above |
Two cautions. These are advertised rates, not what any one business pays, and they change. And the bottom of the table is not where you should aim. Fees at the very low end rarely cover the hours the work takes.
What decides the price?
Four things move a quote more than anything else.
How competitive your sector is. Ranking a dental clinic for “dentist in Jayanagar” is a different job from ranking a loan provider for “personal loan”. The harder the search results, the more content and links it takes.
How many locations and services you have. Each location needs its own Business Profile work. Each service needs its own page, written properly. Ten pages cost less than a hundred.
The state of your site today. A site with broken indexing, slow pages or thin content needs fixing before growth work starts. That is often a one-time cost at the start, followed by a lower monthly fee.
What is in the scope. This is the one buyers miss. Content, link building, reporting and technical work are sometimes bundled and sometimes billed separately.
What should the fee include?
Ask for these by name, in writing:
- a first-month review of the site, with what is wrong and in what order it will be fixed
- on-page work, meaning titles, headings, content and internal links
- technical fixes, such as speed, indexing and structured data
- links or mentions, with the live URLs shown to you
- Google Business Profile work, if you serve a local area
- a monthly report that names enquiries, not only rankings
If a quote just says “SEO services”, ask what that means in hours and deliverables. We cover how to question an agency in how to choose an SEO agency in India.
Retainer, project or pay-per-result?
You will meet three pricing models. They suit different situations, and we cover them in detail in a separate post.
- Monthly retainer: the usual model for ongoing growth. Fair when the deliverables are listed.
- Fixed-price project: best for a defined problem, such as a site migration or a technical clean-up.
- Pay per result: attractive in theory, but it asks you to trust the agency’s definition of a “result”. Check what counts before you agree.
None is automatically the cheapest. The right one is the one where you can see what you are paying for.
How long until it pays back?
Plan for six months before you judge. You should see early movement, such as pages getting indexed and impressions rising, in 60 to 90 days. Growth in enquiries usually takes four to six months.
So think about total cost, not the monthly figure. A plan that is stopped at month three because it “isn’t working” has cost you the full fee and delivered none of the gain. Decide in advance what you will review at month three and month six, and what would make you stop.
How do you check a quote?
Before you sign, run through this list:
- Is the scope written, with named deliverables?
- Will you own the Search Console, Analytics and Business Profile accounts?
- Does the report include enquiries and cost per lead?
- Can they show you live links built for another client?
- Is the notice period reasonable, around one month?
- Is there any guarantee of a ranking? If so, walk away.
A quote far below every other is worth a direct question: what has been cut to reach it?
When SEO is the wrong purchase
SEO is slow to start. Be wary of it in these situations.
You need enquiries this month. Paid ads reach customers faster, and the cost per lead is simple to measure. A Google Ads campaign is often the better first step, and SEO can follow.
The site is almost empty. Build something worth ranking first.
Customer value is small and the market is crowded. Work out what a customer is worth over their lifetime. If the numbers do not cover the cost of winning one through search, better to know before you spend.
You have one specific problem. A slow site or a lost ranking after a migration is a project, not a retainer. Pay for the fix.
What this means for your budget
Pick the price band that matches your sector and size, then compare proposals on scope, not on the headline figure. Be suspicious of both the cheapest quote and any guarantee.
